OstseeMan Glücksburg: Stay Right on the Course – Sleep Where Others Race
The OstseeMan Triathlon takes place on 2 and 3 August 2025 in Glücksburg on the Flensburg Fjord, drawing hundreds of athletes and supporters to the coast. Intermar Hotel sits directly on the fjord – right at the heart of the race action. Booking early means short distances, water views, and breakfast before the starting gun.
Glücksburg in August: Triathlon Atmosphere on the Fjord
Every August, the coastal town of Glücksburg transforms into a meeting point for endurance athletes from across Northern Europe. The OstseeMan – a full-distance triathlon – takes competitors through the town, along the Flensburg Fjord, and across the hilly countryside of Angeln. On 2 and 3 August 2025, it happens again.
What many visitors don't realise: a significant part of the cycling and running routes passes through or directly alongside Glücksburg. Guests staying at Intermar Hotel don't need to travel to the action – they're already in the middle of it.
What Is the OstseeMan?
The OstseeMan is a full-distance triathlon (3.8 km swim, 180 km bike, 42.2 km run) with start and finish in Glücksburg. The event is well established and draws participants from Germany, Denmark, Scandinavia and other European countries. Alongside the athletes themselves come coaches, families and spectators – the coastal town comes alive on these days.
Intermar's Location: Right There, Without the Noise
Intermar Hotel & Apartments sits on the shore of the Flensburg Fjord in Glücksburg. The distance to the town centre and key race areas is short and walkable. Athletes benefit most: no commute stress on race morning, no parking a car loaded with kit. Supporters can follow the race from the waterfront and return to the hotel at leisure.
Rooms on the water-facing side offer views across the fjord – a calm contrast to race-day activity, helpful for winding down after a long event. The apartments are particularly well suited for athletes who travel with equipment: more space, a private kitchen, and flexible timing.
Practical Information for Athletes and Supporters
- Breakfast before the start: Breakfast at Intermar can be taken early – relevant for athletes with an early start time.
- Bicycles: Bikes can be stored at the hotel. Those arriving with a road bike are best advised to ask about options at the time of booking.
- Sauna after the race: The hotel's sauna is available to guests – after a full-distance triathlon, a sensible option for recovery.
- Restaurant Gudlak: The hotel's own restaurant serves regional cuisine right on the water – ideal for dinner after crossing the finish line or for a meal with supporters.
For Supporters and Spectators: Glücksburg as a Base
Those not competing still have plenty to do over an OstseeMan weekend. Glücksburg offers its beach, Glücksburg Castle (one of the most significant moated castles in Northern Europe, built in the 16th century), boat hire and the Fördesteig coastal walking trail. The Holnis Beach Festival takes place this year on 26 July – arriving a little earlier means catching both events.
Why Book Early?
Glücksburg is a small town with limited accommodation. Demand on a triathlon weekend is high – not only from athletes but also from regular summer holiday guests. Booking directly via the hotel website rather than through intermediary platforms gives more flexibility if plans change.
Getting There
Glücksburg is around 10 kilometres north-east of Flensburg, easily reached via the B199 road. By rail, travel to Flensburg and continue by bus or taxi to Glücksburg. The Danish border is approximately 12 kilometres away – a short journey for international athletes from Denmark.
